Co-producing your plan
If we have agreed that your child is eligible for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), your EHC officer will start an assessment summary.
You and your child (or young person) will be invited to a co-production meeting to share your opinions, which will help create a final plan.
This process happens between weeks 12 to 15.
Between weeks 15 and 20, we will issue a draft EHCP. During this stage, you will get 15 days to recommend any changes to the draft plan and name a preference for an education setting. We will then consult your preferred school using the draft EHCP and give the school 15 days in which to respond.
After those 15 days, we must issue a final EHCP to meet our statutory duty.
Final plan
Once an EHCP has been finalised, we will send a copy to:
- you
- the named education setting
- the professionals involved during the assessment
We will legally need to provide any provision and the named placement mentioned in the EHCP. Sometimes, we will issue an EHCP without naming a setting but will instead name a ‘type’ of placement. In those cases, we will be responsible for finding and maintaining a placement that fits this type.
When the final EHCP has been issued, it cannot be amended or changed without an annual review. Sometimes, if the assessment information is received after the plan has been finalised, the plan will be amended to include that information.
If you disagree with the content of your child or young person’s EHCP or with the named education setting, you can make an appeal. You must do this within the legal time limit set out in the letter you receive.
