Hearing loss

Deafness or hearing loss is a difficulty hearing or recognising sounds. There are different levels of loss depending on how loud sounds need to be for you to hear them.

There may also be some sounds that you hear better than others. For example, you can be:

  • partially deaf (able to hear some sounds)
  • profoundly deaf (very little or no hearing)

The RNID has useful information on the signs and causes of hearing loss and the support available:

To request support from us:

If you wish to request support from us, we first need to assess your needs and financial eligibility.

See: Getting in contact to discuss your needs

Please note - paying for social care

It's important to understand that social care from any local authority, unlike the NHS, is not free. Please read more about what you might need to pay and make sure you're aware of this before requesting or agreeing to any services.

Specialist support we offer

After a care assessment, our occupational therapy sensory team can help identify your needs and provide appropriate support, including the assistance of our sensory impairment team.

If you wish, you can contact adult social care using British Sign Language (BSL).
