Training for work

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a mix between paid work and traditional education.

On an apprenticeship, you are known as an apprentice and can earn money while working towards a nationally-recognised level of qualification.

Part of your time is spent working on vocational skills that all employers value. These include basic English language and maths.

The other part is spent gaining technical certificates while working.

If you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you will be able to keep your plan while working towards your apprenticeship.

Levels of apprenticeship

  Level Equivalent educational level
Intermediate 2 GCSE
Advanced 3 A-Level
Higher 4, 5, 6 and 7 Foundation degree or higher
Degree 6 and 7 Bachelor's or master's degree
