Council Tax discounts

Overview

When setting your Council Tax we assume there are 2 or more adults living in your home, but there are reductions for single occupants, and certain occupiers and properties.

You can apply for a reduction if:

  • you live alone (normally a 25% reduction)
  • you are severely mentally disabled or live with someone who is
  • you are a full time student (on a course of at least 21 hours per week and 24 weeks a year)

To apply for a reduction you will need to register or sign in to your Council Tax account using your account number and online key, which is shown on the front of your last bill.
