Mainstream inclusion partnership
The mainstream inclusion partnership (MIP) offers additional support for mainstream settings. This is in order for them to meet your child’s SEND needs from within the setting (age five to 16).
It does not replace the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process, and you should not see it as a pathway to get an EHCP.
Your child’s school is responsible for identifying any SEND needs and if the MIP would be appropriate to offer support. If you have any questions about this, you should speak to the special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) at your child’s school.
If MIP support is sought by your child’s school because your child has exceptional needs, then your consent will be requested (written or verbal).
Your school SENCo will put together a submission for your child as an individual or as a group and present to the Cluster (group of local school SENCos).
SENCOs meet every half term in their Cluster and decide together about MIP support requested by individual SENCOs.
