Child work permits

There are limits on the amount of time a child can work in Hounslow.

The permitted hours are different for:

• weekdays in term time
• weekdays in school holidays
• Saturdays
• Sundays

A child must also have at least two consecutive weeks' break from work per year.

Weekdays in term time

• No work before 7am or after 7pm
• Either:
  • one hour before school and one hour after school
  • two hours after school
• Maximum of 12 hours per week

Weekdays in school holidays

• No work before 7am or after 7pm
• Aged 13 and 14: maximum five hours per day
• Aged 15 and 16: maximum eight hours per day
• At least a one-hour break after working four hours consecutively

Saturdays

• No work before 7am or after 7pm
• Aged 13 and 14: maximum five hours per day
• Aged 15 and 16: maximum eight hours per day
• At least a one-hour break after working four hours consecutively

Sundays

• No work before 7am or after 7pm
• Maximum two hours per day for all ages
