Child work permits

Overview

The law requires us to enforce the regulation of child employment.

Children are required to have a work permit from us if they:

  • are aged 13 or over and are of compulsory school age
  • have paid part-time employment
  • work in the London Borough of Hounslow

Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to work.

A child needs a work permit until the last Friday in June of school year 11, even if they have turned 16 before this date.

A permit is required even if the child is working for their parents.

There are restrictions to the number of hours a child can work.

In agreement with the child and parent, the employer is required to apply for a child work permit within the first five days of employment.
