Working at an election

We are always looking on the lookout for motivated and enthusiastic staff to work in polling stations and at the count.

You could play an important role for your local community, while earning some extra money.

The rates of pay for election staff depend upon the job role and type of election. We confirm pay rates before an election.

Person requirements

To work at an election, you must:

  • be aged 18 years or over 
  • have a National Insurance number 
  • have the right to work in the UK (you will be asked to provide your passport and any supporting documents to confirm you’re entitled to work in the UK) 

You do not need to be an employee of London Borough of Hounslow Council to work at an election. 

However, you cannot work at an election if you are employed by a political party or candidate at an election, including unpaid work.

  • mobile number

We contact everyone on our database ahead of each election to check their availability and check which roles they are interested in.

Please note that being on our database does not guarantee employment at an election time. If you're not initially allocated for a post, you will be added to our reserve list.
