Making alterations to your council home

You may be allowed to make alterations to your council home if you have a secure tenancy.

You can't make alterations if you have a probationary tenancy. You can only make cosmetic changes.

See: Types of tenancy

You must seek our written consent to make alterations.

You may also need planning permission or building regulations approval.

If you make alterations without our consent, you are in breach of the terms and conditions of your tenancy agreement. You may then need to return the property to its former state.

To request permission:

You can contact your housing and tenancy officer about getting permission to make alterations to your home.
