Disabled Facilities Grants

After your grant is approved

Once your grant has been approved, we will contact the builder or contractor whose price was most competitive.

If your adaptations involve building works

We will liaise with the builder to set up a pre-start meeting. In this meeting we will discuss the details of the works and agree a start date.

Please note, any delays or cancellations close to the start date will have an impact on when the builder can return. This is due to other commitments the builder may have. We cannot guarantee when the builder can return.

If your adaptations are for equipment

We order equipment such as hoists or stairlifts from the manufacturer.

They will then liaise directly with you to arrange installation.

During the works

After the works start, we will check that everything is progressing well. If you have any problems during the works, you can contact us.

Once the works have been completed, we will visit with the builder to ‘sign off’ the works.

A Building Control officer may also visit during and/or after the works. This depends on the nature of the works.

A member of the OT team will contact you to make sure the adaptations meet your needs. They will also check whether you need further equipment to help you (for example, a shower chair).

When you and the housing adaptation service are satisfied with the work, we will pay the grant money to the builder. Your application will then be closed.

Providing feedback

After the works are completed, we will send you a customer satisfaction form.

We would kindly ask you to complete the form so we can use any feedback to improve the service.
