Library services for children

Free books for babies and toddlers

The Bookstart programme offers free book packs to all children at key ages before they start school to inspire a love of reading.

Free book packs

The Bookstart Baby pack for babies (0 to 12 months) is available from your health visitor or can be collected from a local library.

The pack for toddlers and pre-schoolers (3 to 4 years old) is available through nursery schools, private nurseries, playgroups or your local library.

Bookstart Touch packs for under-5s who are visually impaired, Bookstart Shine packs for those who have a hearing impairment and Bookstart Star, for children 3 to 5 who have a disability that impacts or delays the development of their fine motor skills, are available on request from the Bookstart Coordinator.

Babies and toddlers at Hounslow libraries

Babies can join the library from the day they're born. It's free for everyone to join and babies and children will receive a warm welcome.

Storytimes for babies, toddlers and their carers are run in most libraries. Stories, songs, rhymes, joining in and sharing is fun!

Parenting advice and situation books are available to borrow in the children’s library.
