You can report a house in multiple occupation (HMO) to us if you believe it is:
- unlicensed
- in breach of its licence conditions
Before you report it to us, you should check:
- information on HMO licensing
- if the property is on our list of licensed HMOs
If you property is on our list of licensed HMOs, you can check:
- the number of households permitted in the HMO
- the number of occupants permitted in the HMO
- the licence expiry date
If the property is on our list of registered HMOs, you shouldn't report it as being without a licence.
However, if the property isn't on our list, it doesn't necessarily mean that the HMO is operating illegally. The list shows properties where the licence has been issued. The landlord may have applied for a licence that has not been issued yet.
