About the programme
This programme is previously known as the National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP).
We partner with Impact: The Local Government Graduate Programme to offer Hounslow-based graduates work placements at Hounslow Council.
Impact is run by the Local Government Association (LGA). It provides a fantastic opportunity for recent graduates to fast-track their career in local government and learn more about the vital work of public servants.
The programme runs for two years. During this time, graduates gain experience in a number of different areas across the council. We aim to partner the interests of our graduates with the council’s strategic needs. The means we deliver the greatest value to the local community while enhancing your skills and management training.
Placements are available across the entire organisation, including areas such as:
- Corporate services
- Strategy and Policy
- Children’s and Adult Services
- Environmental Services
You will also gain a postgraduate-level qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This is a varied and prestigious programme which has a high record of success developing graduates into local government managers and leaders.

Graduates work as a management trainee in key strategic areas with senior managers, directors and councillors.
